Recapping a busy weekend: golf and more

Just a few items from the busy weekend I had:

– Overall, that was a pretty successful weekend for the LPGA. Stacy Lewis won the player of the year, Inbee Park won the money title and Na Yeon Choi won the season-ending CME Group Titleholders. A lot of parity at the top of the LPGA these days.

–I saw the Bond movie, Skyfall, Sunday. A wonderful homage to the franchise. Maybe not the movie to live up to the stellar reviews. But quite a good film, and it makes wonderful use of restarting a lot of the characters. Bests moment, the return of the old Aston Martin!

–You might not has noticed, but Luke Donald won in Dunlop Phoenix event in Japan over the weekend. And with the win, he will take over the No. 2 spot in the world rankings from Tiger Woods. So now it’s McIlroy, Donald and Woods at the top of the rankings.

–I saw Steve Winwood at Fantasy Springs Saturday. No single human being should be that talented. He was backed by an amazing four-man band, but every time you started to get caught up in that band, Winwood would play keyboards or guitar and you would remember that he was the best musician of a great group. Very strong playlist, too.

–Palm Desert’s Nicole Castrale finished her comeback year with a tie for 65th in the CME Group Titleholders. That’s not the finish she wanted, I’m sure, but this was an outstanding comeback year for Castrale from shoulder surgery in 2010 and giving birth to her first child in November of 2011. She finished 53rd on the money list with $226,600, is once again fully exempt for the 2013 (not just on medical exemptions and the like) and she made headway in earning Solheim Cup points this year. Now comes some off-season work to get ready for next year and hopefully that will include a big week at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
