The Kia Classic will be played on the LPGA Tour the week before the Kraft Nabisco Champions down at La Costa Resort in Carlsbad. It is the third year Kia has hosted a tournament, twice in San Diego and one year in the City of Industry while La Costa Resort was being renovated.
But Kia ia a bigger deal for the LPGA than just hosting the one event. Kia has Michelle Wie as a spokeperson, and its likely you have seen the Wie commercial for the Kia Soul.
Now Kia is adding even more to the LPGA by sponsors four season-long award bonuses.
–The Kia Performance Awards will include.
–The Kia Power Drive, to the player with the longest average driving distance;
–The Drive to the Top, to the player with the most top-10 finishes;
– The Most Compelling Performance, recognizing a player with exceptional performances throughout the year (this is an online fan vote);
The Kia Community Assist, for a player who makes exceptional contributions to charity organizations or community programs
The award for these performances will be a Kia Optima Limited, the same car given to the winner of the Kia Classic.
For now and for the immediate future, it seems that the LPGA doesn’t have to worry about at least one of its sponsors. Kia seems, as they say in poker, all in.
